Huseyin Djemil is Founder of Towards Recovery, a recovery community based in Henley-on-Thames. I first met Huseyin Djemil in 2006/7 at a recovery group meeting run by Kathy Gyngell at the Centre for Policy Studies. I was very impressed by what he had to say, and by his demeanour and professionalism. At the time, he was London Area Drug Strategy Coordinator for HM Prison Services. I had no idea at first that Huseyin was in recovery from addiction to Class A drugs.
Given what I saw and heard at our first meeting, it was no surprise that Huseyin went on to run a very successful consultancy, Green Apple Consulting Ltd. His work gave him great insights into the addiction treatment system, as well as social care and criminal justice sectors, and various not-for-profit organisations. Huseyin is now Head for New Hope Drug and Alcohol Service in Bracknell.
I edited a series of 15 short films (totally nearly 90 minutes) from my interview with Huseyin in March 2023. Huseyin talks about the ongoing development of Towards Recovery, describes some of his work as a freelance consultant in the addiction field, and reflects on various themes related to addiction recovery and treatment. He is in long-term recovery from an addiction to Class A drugs. Here is the first of the 15 films.
